She was born on December 17, 1975 in Kyiv. Millas grandfather and brother, Bogdan and Branko Jovovich, participated in an attempt to overthrow Yugoslav leader Josip Broz Tito. In 1980 the family moved to London, then to Sacramento, USA and then, seven months later, to Los Angeles. In particular, they were cleaners and cooks in the house of director Brian de Palma . Some time after moving to Los Angeles, Bogic and Galina divorced. Bogic started an affair with a certain Argentine a few years later, and from this relationship, Milla has a younger half-brother, Marco (born in 1988), but because of the divorce of her parents, she rarely saw him.

From October to November 1992, Milla was married to actor Sean Andrews, in 1997-1999 - to director Luc Besson.

On August 22, 2009, Milla married for the third time - to director Paul Anderson, whom she met seven years before their wedding.

In 2017, she underwent an emergency abortion at the fifth month of pregnancy due to the risk of preterm birth.
