King Kong

also known simply as Kong, is a fictional American gorilla-like monster, or kaiju, that comes from Skull Island.

He has starred in numerous films and has become one of the icons of modern popular culture. He has been nicknamed the King of Beasts2 and would eventually also be given the title of the Eighth Wonder of the World, an expression widely recognized within the franchise.

He first appeared on screen in the 1933 film King Kong, one of the first and most famous giant monster films. A sequel quickly followed that same year with Son of Kong, starring Little Kong. Toho produced King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962), which features a much more gigantic Kong fighting Godzilla, and Toho's King Kong Escapes (1967), a film loosely based on Rankin/Bass' The King Kong Show (1966-1969). In 1976, Dino De Laurentiis produced a modern remake of the original film directed by John Guillermin. A sequel, King Kong Lives, followed a decade later with Lady Kong. Another remake of the original, this time set in 1933, was released in 2005 by filmmaker Peter Jackson.
