Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos
Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos (from the English Warcraft - “war craft”, Reign of chaos - “dominance of chaos”) is a computer game in the genre of real-time strategy with RPG elements. Developed and released in July 2002 by Blizzard Entertainment with the support of Vivendi Universal.
Warcraft III was one of the most anticipated games, with over 4.5 million pre-orders and over one million copies sold in less than a month, making it the fastest-selling PC game to date. It was met with many positive reviews, and some publications noted the game with the titles “Best Game of the Year” and “Best Strategy of the Year.” The game also received high ratings from players. The game was number one on NPD Techworld's weekly sales chart for two months.
Unlike previous games in the series, the number of warring parties has increased from two to four: in addition to the already well-known Alliance and Horde, it became possible to play for two new races - the Undead and the Night Elves. However, the overall gameplay has not changed - the player still needs to extract resources, build and improve bases and hire troops in order to destroy the enemy army. An innovation were heroes - unique units that have special abilities and are able to gain experience by killing enemy warriors.
The game's story campaign begins 12 years after the events of Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal and tells about the coming of demons to the world of Azeroth.
The game comes with a World Editor map editor, thanks to which many unofficial maps have appeared online, in which the gameplay may be completely different from the usual one. DotA: Allstars became one of the most popular maps, and many other modifications were also developed, such as Tower Defense, Hero Survival, etc. A year later, an addition to the game was released: The Frozen Throne, which also became popular among players and received many positive reviews.
On November 2, 2018, at BlizzCon 2018, a re-release of the game Warcraft III: Reforged was announced with updated graphics, re-recorded videos and sound, and support for 4K resolutions. The game was released on January 29, 2020 and received mixed reviews from critics and extremely negative ratings from players.
Warcraft III gameplay takes place on maps of various sizes, with terrain features such as rivers, mountains, seas or cliffs. Unexplored areas of the map are initially hidden by the so-called “fog of war”, when all areas of the map are hidden from the player, and in the event that friendly units have reconnaissed and then left the area, it remains only partially explored - the player sees only the latest state of the terrain or enemy buildings. Warcraft III requires players to gather resources, construct buildings, and produce combat units to explore the map and defeat the enemy. The game's economy uses three main resources - gold, wood and food. The first two are required to create units and buildings, while subsistence limits the maximum number of units that can be owned at any given time[10]. In addition, an "upkeep" system was introduced, which means that producing units above a certain amount reduces the amount of gold mined, which forces players to fight with a limited number of units
